As the 2018 wildfire season reaches its peak, it’s the perfect time to take the preventative steps necessary to ensure your home or cabin don’t become a victim to a wildfire. As of July 10th, the U.S. has already suffered through over 31,536 wildfires, which have collectively burned over 3,358,593 acres. From Florida to Alaska, 13 states have fought or are fighting wildfires. California alone has lost over 197,000 acres, making this the worst wildfire season since 2008, when wildfires mostly started from freak dry lightening strikes burned over 627,000 acres. Alaska, has already had over 181,000 acres charred from 19 different fires. A warming climate, combined with drought-like conditions have made the U.S. (particularly the West) a prime target for wildfires.
