There are three types of sleeping bags: Rectangular, mummy and barrel. Rectangular sleeping bags are the largest and if you are looking for plenty of room to toss and turn, then these are the sleeping bags for you. But they are also the heaviest sleeping bags and will take up the most room.
A mummy sleeping bag is tight-fitting and wraps around the body like a cocoon. They are the lightest and also the most efficient for weight and warmth as well. If you are undertaking a backpacking adventure, a mummy sleeping bag is your best choice as it will not add unnecessary weight to your gear or become a backpacking burden.
All of our mummy sleeping bags are designed to keep you warm in the most rugged of climates. We offer two choices of insulating material: Synthetic or goose down. Goose-down sleeping bags are considered superior for their weight to warmth ratio. Goose down is very compactable and light and will retain its insulating properties after many years of use.
Synthetic mummy sleeping bags will weigh more than goose down, but they are known to perform better in wet weather. If you are planning a trip in a wet climate, you may want to consider the synthetic insulation as an alternative to goose down.
